The Moth StorySLAMs are steadily spreading all over the map, gathering people and stories from all over the country. New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston have multiple shows each month. The Moth is open to anyone with a five-minute story to share on the night’s posted theme. The brave of heart, or those with stories they’re aching to tell, prepare personal, true tales. When the doors open, storyteller hopefuls put their names in The Moth Hat. A half hour later, names are picked, and one by one, storytellers take the stage. Each person has just five minutes! The ten featured stories are scored by teams of judges selected from the audience. Each StorySLAM generates a StorySLAM winner. After ten SLAMs, the winners face off in our GrandSLAM Championships. Prepare a five-minute story about dirt. Squalor, smut, filth, muck and mire! Dig it, dish it, spread it, hose it off. Dirt cheap, dirt poor, treated like dirt. Listen as gardeners and gossips share dirty tidbits and share all the filthy details. Talk Dirty to Us.
Tuesday, January 16: ACHILLES HEEL
Prepare a five-minute story about weaknesses and soft spots. Vulnerable situations. That look your dog gives you, your secret love of harlequin novels, your fear of goldfish, your need to have the last word. Recklessly falling in love or getting struck down from the hilltop. Regale us with tales of your personal cryptonite.
Tuesday, February 20: TRANSIT
Prepare a five-minute story about planes, trains, and automobiles. Getting from A to B and notable moments along the way. The Boeing 747, the F train, or the Volvo. That attractive stranger on the plane, the time your soup spilled on the bus, or crying in traffic. Regale us with tales of commutes, fastened seat belts and left turns.
Tuesday, March 6: TESTS
Prepare a five-minute story about being put through the ringer. From “How do I look in these pants?” to “How do you calculate velocity?” Failing, excelling, and setting the curve. Testing your knowledge, your loyalty, or your last nerve. Regale with tales of examination and qualification.
Tuesday, April 17: MAIL
Prepare a five-minute story involving a mailbox. Love letters, junk mail, hate mail, fan mail. Writing that Dear John letter, or receiving a court order, ransom note, or news from the admissions office. Brown paper packages, test results, breaking the seal on the letter that changed your life! Regale us with tales of emails, telegrams, chain mail and other special deliveries.
Tuesday, May 22, 2018: HAIR
Prepare a five minute story about curls, bangs, and mop tops. Relaxing it, pulling it out, or trading out the pigtails for a mohawk. Proving you’re more than just “that kid with the blue hair”. Loving what you were born with or reinventing yourself. Beauty standards and difficult tangles. Regale us with tales of roots, furs, and locks.

Doors for the Moth open at 7PM. Due to The Moth’s policies, all seating is on a first-come-first-serve basis and the saving of seats is prohibited. We cannot guarantee that patrons who arrive after the house opens will be able to sit together, and as there are a limited number of seats some patrons will be placed in the Standing Room Only area. Please be sure to arrive at least 10 minutes before the show. Admission is not guaranteed for late arrivals.
