Premieres of new plays by David Mamet are always eagerly awaited events. And once again the American Repertory Theater has the honor to offer the world premiere production of a new Mamet work. In previous seasons, Mamet’s provocative Oleanna, his mysterious The Cryptogram, and his intensely personal The Old Neighborhood all premiered at the A.R.T.
Mamet’s latest work, Boston Marriage, breaks new theatrical ground for the playwright in several ways: it features an all-female cast, and the action takes place in a historical rather than a contemporary setting. Boston Marriage centers around a mysterious relationship between two women in turn-of-the-century America. Through beautifully wrought and surprisingly comic dialogue, the secrets of this relationship are slowly revealed.
