Be there for a special one-night event
brought to you by the A.R.T. and 826 Boston!
The Strand Theatre
Friday, August 14 7PM
This summer, twenty middle-schoolers from all over Boston have come together to write, design and perform four original plays, with the help of writing mentors from 826 Boston and theater pros at A.R.T., including the lead creatives on Waitress, singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and A.R.T. Artistic Director Diane Paulus, who provided mentorship for our young playwrights on what it takes to build a new musical from the ground up and how live theater impacted who they are today. The creative process began with the resonant themes of Waitress (self-empowerment, drawing strength from one’s community, the amazingness of food), mashed-up with a post-apocalyptic setting in which animals rule the Earth after humans have gone extinct (the campers came up with that second part).
The annual A.R.T./826 Boston Summer Theater and Writing Camp culminates with the premiere of the campers’ original plays at the historic Strand Theatre in Dorchester. Join us for this hilarious, inspiring and thought-provoking celebration of our local youth’s imagination.
