Michael Wilson

Michael Wilson, the director of The Glass Menagerie, has been artistic director of Hartford Stage for three years. He has directed nine productions there in that time, including Macbeth, A Streetcar Named Desire, Camino Real, Long Day's Journey Into Night, and premieres of Horton Foote's The Death of Papa and Matthew Barber's Enchanted April. He has overseen 19 new productions for the theatre, including Mark Lamos' revival of Edward Albee's Tiny Alice and the east coast premiere of Helen Edmundson's The Clearing. New initiatives include the Brand:NEW festival of new works, a family holiday production of A Christmas Carol, and Summer Stage. Off-Broadway, he directed New York premieres of Williams' The Red Devil Battery Sign and Jane Anderson's Defying Gravity. Mr. Wilson's work has also been seen at Berkeley Rep, Coconut Grove Playhouse, NY Stage & Film, Philadelphia Theatre Co., PlayMakers Rep, and eighteen productions over nine seasons for Houston's Alley Theatre, where he was Associate Director from 1990 to 1998. Awards include Princess Grace Foundation—USA Theatre and Edward Albee Foundation fellowships. He has been a lecturer at NYU, Oberlin College, Rice University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
